I’m thrilled to embark on this five-week research project, focusing on the historical significance of the Guangzhou Zoo site. Today, I arrived at the zoo and captured this photo of its grand entrance. The anticipation of delving into its rich history fills me with excitement. As I ventured through the entrance, I couldn’t help but marvel at the captivating atmosphere. The hustle and bustle of families, the sounds of exotic bird calls, and the sight of vibrant flora in the surrounding gardens created a captivating ambiance that hinted at the zoo’s fascinating past. My goal for this week is to explore the origins of the zoo and understand how it transitioned from a mere source of entertainment, profiting from animal shows, to a place dedicated to promoting conservation and providing a sanctuary for circus animals. Through my initial research, I discovered that the Guangzhou Zoo was established in the early 20th century with the primary purpose of entertaining visitors through animal performances.
