Self Evaluation
I enrolled in this course with a clear objective: to delve into the world of fashion design and gain a deeper understanding of the industry. I hope to cultivate my independence and nurture my creativity throughout the course.
There were three standout moments that I truly cherished throughout the course. Firstly, I witnessed a significant growth in my ability to learn independently. Secondly, being surrounded by creative peers with exceptional hand-drawing skills inspired me greatly, and I was able to experience different learning techniques to enhance my ability in the creative process. Additionally, living with like-minded friends and enjoying the freedom to make my own decisions and manage my time was a liberating experience.
One of the most significant things I have learned is the importance of research and development in the design process. I have honed my ability to conduct thorough research, analyze trends, and gather inspiration from various sources. This research-driven approach has allowed me to conceptualize and develop designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also meaningful and relevant. Additionally, the course has deepened my understanding of garment construction and pattern making. Through practical assignments and hands-on experience, I have learned to translate my design concepts into tangible garments. Moreover, it has fostered my creativity and encouraged me to think outside the box. I have explored different design aesthetics, experimented with unconventional materials, and challenged traditional design norms.
Looking ahead to starting the next academic year in October, I feel confident and well-prepared. Having gained valuable experience in independently working on portfolio projects, I am more equipped than students who haven’t studied at the Foundation. Familiarity with the portfolio process and the opportunity to interact with students from various artistic disciplines beforehand have nurtured my ability to think outside the box and fostered creativity. Besides, I’ve noticed the progress I’ve made in hand-drawing skills is evident during the course, and I take pride in the improvement I’ve achieved.
If given more time, I would have made adjustments to the middle phase of my project. Choosing a broader scope for my research led to an overwhelming amount of content without a clear focus. In hindsight, I realize the importance of refining and narrowing down the direction of my research to ensure a more cohesive outcome.
